Huskies were bred from dogs indigenous to the Siberian Arctic. Huskies were imported to Alaska during the Nome Gold Rush. Huskies are named after tribes of Inuits called Huskies. Teams of Huskies were used during Gunnar Kaasen's 1925 run to deliver diphtheria vaccine to Nome. The last Siberian Huskies were exported from Siberia in 1930, after which the Soviet government closed the country's borders to outside trade.
