Howdy, y'all! The name's Buddy and I sure could use a buddy - a FUREVER buddy! I'm around 1.5 years old & oh, so playful! I'm totally attentive and eager to please. I'm CRAZY about my beef bones and stuffed toys and my most favorite games to play are tug-o-war and fetch. I'd be a PERFECT hiking partner - outdoorsmen are my tribe! I play well with other dogs and have NEVER met a stranger - I greet all of my foster parents' guests with wags and kisses. My foster mom has horses and I must admit, I like to chase them. No harm; just play. But, they don't seem to like it. So, my foster mama got be a Pet Safe wireless boundary collar and I'm ... (Read More)learning the ropes quite well. I'm very respectful. I have not been around cats, so I'm not sure how I would react to those fickle beings. Well, now that you know all about ME, tell me about YOU! Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Brody is a fun loving, goofy, loyal companion. He is ready to play when you want to play and ready to relax while you watch a movie. Brody isn't much of a barker, is crate trained, completely house trained and is used to spending time alone while the adults are at work. Brody has completed basic obedience and knows leave it, lay down, sit, paw, and 'say please'. He could use some training with walking on a leash. Brody is being re-homed because he can be protective over his people. This is true with other dogs and people. Brody will need a home who can train him to overcome his anxiety with strangers in the home. Because we both work and ... (Read More)plan to have kids - we would love to find Brody a loving home that fits him better. We love him to pieces but we rescued him as a stray and didn't know he had these issues. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-28-00543Memphis (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Memphis is an adorable Huskita (Husky/Akita) mix that is an absolute ham. He is an affectionate boy that loves to be with you, go on adventures or play with his toys. He absolutely adores my female Akita and they are best friends. She and him play to no end while outside. Inside, Memphis is calm and quiet unless you are entertaining him. He loves to sleep on the floor, dog beds, your bed or maybe even the couch (if you allow it). He comes from Memphis Animal Services where he was picked up as a stray and never reclaimed. He came to me heartworm positive but I have treated him with doxycycline to kill off the bacteria and then he had 2 ... (Read More)immiticide injections to kill the worms. He was a very low-positive and never acted symptomatic but I felt it was best to get him treated soon due to the resistant strain of heartworms coming from the Midwest. He is heartworm free now and is ready to find his forever home. He is housebroken, house and crate trained, leash trained and is microchipped. The Husky side of him is a talker and he will arrooroo to you if he is happy or wants attention and you aren't giving him enough. He would absolutely love an active doggy friend, male or female, although he seems more playful around the females. Memphis loves all people and is not overly hyper around young kids; my nephew and niece are 7 and 5 years old respectively. He has not been around newborns or infants but does not have an aggressive bone in his body, he loves to give kisses and is gentle. Cats and small dogs are also an unknown and he hasn't been exposed to them here. Memphis is looking for an active family that loves to spend time outdoors, he needs a 6' fence to be able to safely play in his yard without worries. Any questions you may have please feel free to ask away or to set up a time for us to meet you and the family. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Virginia
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.

lnteresting Siberian Husky Trivia Low-Cost Virginia Spay & Neuter Clinics
Huskies were bred from dogs indigenous to the Siberian Arctic. Teams of Huskies were used during Gunnar Kaasen's 1925 run to deliver diphtheria vaccine to Nome. The last Siberian Huskies were exported from Siberia in 1930, after which the Soviet government closed the country's borders to outside trade.
