Rescue Me ID: 15-02-26-00255Cyrus (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cyrus is 3 years old and almost 90lbs. We had him since he was 8 weeks old. Once he gets to know his new owner he is very kind, playful and alert. He is not neutered and not house trained. He quickly learns new tricks. As Huskys/Malemutes are known for they are high energy dogs. Cyrus needs lots of attention. He has been living outside most of the times we had him for (since he was a puppy). He has been kenneled for the last 3 months due to a military move into an area where we can not have him outside. The kennel attendances all like him and have nothing negative to say about him. Cyrus needs a large fenced in area to run or several ... (Read More)long walks a day. His new owner should have prior experience with this breed. He first might act shy when he gets to know new people but gets attached to them fast. He is a very kind dog that does not like harsh actions but needs a strong leader. He is good with other dogs once he gets to know them but likes to be the 'alpha male'. A home where he would be the only dog might be preferable. Due to his high energy he is not suitable for small kids (he jumps). We would like to find a new home for him as soon as possible so he can have a nice life outside of 'bars'. We have a large dog house and a portable kennel that come with him. For more information please contact me (preferable by phone). (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-22-00158SKYLAR (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SKYLAR was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th February 2015, the day he was due to be killed. SKYLAR had severe demodex mange and red in-flammed skin that is being treated and healing well. SKYLAR at the time of rescuing him was not leash trained and was very fearful of the leash, we think maybe he had been tied up outside and neglected. SKYLAR came over fearful and shy on initial meeting, but as soon as he met the dogs his confidence was re-gained, his tail was up and he started running around happily to be with his own kind. Over the first few days SKYLAR was trying to show dominance on the younger dogs, but was in no ... (Read More)way aggressive, it was more of him trying to find his place, also he had only been neutered the day before. SKYLAR does have high energy and likes to be running around playing rather than sitting relaxing, he will definitely need an active family. SKYLAR will need at minimum basic and hopefully advanced training, This not only sets the guidelines and expectations out for him, but helps a bond be formed and a clearer understand for both him and family of body language and personalities. SKYLAR is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He had tested positive for heart-worm disease which the rescue will be getting treated around the end of February. SKYLAR at time of rescue weighed around 40 pounds and has been given an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2013 (I do however, think he might be slightly younger as he acts very young - but I am not a vet!) SKYLAR is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170 We will be happy to process and approve adopters before his heartworm treatment so as soon as he is fully healthy he can go on to start his new life. Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Rescue Road Trips LLC. and P.E.T.S. LLC, both highly reputable animal rescue transport companies to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the East Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). These are private companies and their transport fee's (which is paid directly to them) are $175 and $185 per dog. This fee is in addition to what you would pay the rescue for the adoption fee. Our adoption process and fee is on our website under the APPLICATION tab. More photo's can be found by clicking on his photo under the GSD tab. www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-12-00552Shadow (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Shadow has been with me since last May. He was found wandering the streets of Williamsburg and I elected to bring him here. I have been unable to find his former home and have talked with every animal clinic/shelter from Newport News to Toano. Since I brought him home, he has been perfect and I have had zero issues with him as far as house/crate training, he is housebroken. My best guess as to his mixture is that of a Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute. He has amber eyes and a Sable coat color. His fur is a little denser than my Huskies and his ears are spread apart a little wider than that of a Husky. He loves to talk, and will ... (Read More)serenade you all day long if you enjoy such. I have cat tested him with zero reactions from Shadow, at one point he looked away as the cat (who is very dog savvy) ran down the hallway. He could care less about chasing them, and seems to be more interested in people and other dogs. I always would exercise caution around cats/small dogs because not every cat is the same. Shadow LOVES to play with other dogs, and definitely plays like a Husky/Malamute which is different than most non northern breeds. He is crated when I am not home and loose with the other dogs when I am home. He sleeps loose wherever at night and has never gotten into anything. He is up to date on his shots as of May when he arrived and is also micro-chipped as well. Feel free to email me with any questions and I will get back to you as soon as possible. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-12-00541Laika (female)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Laika is a sweet girl between 3-5 years approx. She is average energy, will chase a ball for a while and then lay down to cool off. Inside the house, she is great and has had no accidents at all. She can be crated if you are not home, she has met me at the door a couple of times when she got out of her crate but I found no damage. She does well with dogs her size, I do not have small dogs to test with so that is an unknown. I have no cats either but would generally say no being a Husky with a prey drive potential. She hasn't been around kids but does great with adults and like to cuddle or lay next to you as close as possible. She ... (Read More)sleeps loose at night and sleeps soundly until it is time to go outside and play/use the bathroom. Any other questions, feel free to send me an email and I will return correspondence promptly. Her adoption fee is $150 that will include her 42-inch double door crate, $100 if the crate is not needed. Laika is up to date on her shots as of August and has been micro-chipped. Thank you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-26-00133Van Gogh (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Van Gogh is a extremely sweet dog. He is excellent with children of all ages and adults. Van is a beautiful dog with one blue eye and a half blue and brown eye. Never have had a problem with other dogs. He is good with most cats, but may need supervision with kittens. Although he is a husky mix, Van is 65 pounds and has the height of a very large german shepherd or larger. He is exceptionally laid back for a husky mix, though still has issues with the husky traits of digging and excessive shedding, which are the most negative things about him. I rescued Van Gogh from the Suffolk Animal Control back in August. I new I had my hands full with ... (Read More)three kids, college, and a part-time job, but wanted to keep Van Gogh. Unfortunately, I have my hands too full, though I gave him my best. Van needs someone to work with him more and be home with him more than I can. Please contact me, my name is Ashley Parker, and ask me any questions. I simply want Van to go to a caring home that will keep up with his regular vaccines. (Less)

A RUNNER and has bit me x 1 when trying to collar. Can be quiet and meek. We have 3 other huskies and he just is a huge management problem and unworkable. he needs to be all alone and enclosed as he is a fast runner and hard to control

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-02-00268Missy (female)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Missy is a 3-year old pure bred Husky. She has been spayed, is full of life and very smart. Missy is good with other dogs and people, but a little too lively for small children and cats. Huskies are dogs for the experienced Husky owner. This is because Huskies: - are, by nature, long distance runners and lovers of freedom, and are notorious escape artists. - are extremely high energy dogs, and to add to that they are also great at only using a minimal amount of energy while they work. This makes them difficult to tire. They were bred to pull heavy loads over many many miles without the necessity to or rest a lot. - are natural ... (Read More)diggers. - are closer to the wolf ancestor than most other dogs, because of this they have a very defined pack structure with a clear alpha. If they don't feel like they need you, they will roam. Then when they are hungry they will follow the first person they see. This is one reason why they must be kept on leash.) - are the worst guard dogs. Siberians have been known to either not care if an intruder comes in, just watching them ransack the house, to actually unlocking and opening doors to let intruders in. (Although their wolf like appearance may thwart off some who aren't familiar with their temperament.) - have a deep seeded pack mentality, so having a solitary husky is a recipe for a destroyed home. If you work long hours and have no other dogs, consider holding off on the husky. - require brushing at least once a week. But twice a year they blow their entire coat, and boy let me tell you, its A LOT of fur'| Everywhere. When they are blowing their coat brushing several times a day is essential. The coat blowing can last 2-6 wks. - Require special grooming: when a Husky gets a bath or goes for a swim and doesn't get properly dried, it develops mold and mildew which eat at the skin. To prevent this, one must blow dry and brush a husky until it is dry after a bath. This can take over an hour. We must be very careful to find Huskies homes where the human is the 'pack leader' who is experienced and extremely active. Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Fritz is one of two husky/mix bonded dogs we got from the SPCA about 4-5 yrs ago, is neutered, chipped, and has all his shots. Appeared to have been abused previously - does not want to come into a house easily. Very good around kids and adults. We have two problems: 1) Our yard is not big enough for these dogs but 2) and more importantly, Fritz has a problem with his ACL (right rear leg) and we simply cannot afford the cost of surgery, Doesn't appear in pain but obviously favors it. Am hopeful to find a home with someone that might be able to have the surgery performed for him. As I said, he is half of a bonded pair. Mac is the other husky ... (Read More)mix, with same behaviors. He is dark colored and has the 'blue eye - orange eye combo'. We really would prefer that they stay together, and rather than enter Mac here too, can send pics of the dog to interested parties. Am willing to deliver to anyone that is willing and able to get Fritz the surgery required. (Less)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Dakota is an energetic 3 year old very playful Husky mix who is dominant with other dogs and okay with cats as long as there's no food or rawhide bones lying around. He was rescued at 6 months; he wasn't socialized as a pup so he needs a home with NO KIDS. He loves to run, play fetch & get love! He is crate trained and knows basic commands. He needs to be walked several times a day or go to a home with land or a large fenced yard- he is a husky and needs plenty of excercise. He should not be left alone with other dogs as he will pick a fight over water, food, etc. He currently gets crated when home alone & loves his crate aka his 'man-cave.'

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Virginia
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
