Rescue Me ID: 16-04-27-00573Shawnee (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Shawnee! I am a 1.5 year old malamute/husky mix. I have been chained for most of my life and now I am ready to have some fun! I love tennis balls more than anything in the world. I love to chase them and play with them and roll on them. I also like to steal brushes and leashes and the camera from my foster mom and take off running! I seem to like some of the other dogs in my foster home but I did get into trouble when I broke my chain and hurt another dog. That is why they sent me to Augusta Dog Adoptions. ADA is going to find me a really great home with a fenced in yard and very responsible owner who will take me to training. I ... (Read More)mean, I don't even know how to sit! I am a very sweet girl. I just need an education and some manners to help me act as good as I look! $175.00 adoption donation ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough) , microchipped and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites if needed. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as surgeries and dentals. For more information or apply to adopt at www.augustadogadoptions.org Adoption Process All dogs are spayed/neutered and vaccinated prior to adoption. Several have received additional medical care as well. The standard adoption donation is $175.00. However, the donation can easily be adjusted for seniors and dogs with special needs. It may also be slightly higher for young, purebred dogs. The adoption donation helps us provide care for the foster dogs. We ask potential adopters to fill out a short application at www.augustadogadoptions.org. If a match is made, a time to meet and adopt is then set up, usually on the following Saturday. (Less)

Sierra is located now in a loving foster home in Newport News, VA. She is in a house with both big and small dogs, kids and cats ( she does try to play with the cats). There are no issues. She is house trained and crate trained. She is spayed, micro-chipped and current on all vaccines. She is HW positive and we are doing the slow kill method so we will supply heart worm pills for 6 months and pay for her to be retested. If she still comes back positive we will pay for another 6 months and then she should be negative. We will take care of that until she is negative . It's non contagious. She does like to chew so you need to make sure she has ... (Read More)hard toys to play with. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-11-02-00279Abraham (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Abraham is believed to be a shepherd mix according to the shelter. We however are having a lot of people tell us he may be a Carolina dog of a American dingo cross. He has thick short fur and a lot of energy. Knows basic commands doesn't seem to want to mark on anything we are working on crate training so housebreaking will be easier. According to shelter he is Houdini and escapes crates and runs. We are evaluating this and working with him on his energy. He is an intact male so hopes are he will calm down once neutered and as he gets older. Estimated age about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Needs an active family but other then that should do fine ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Virginia
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
