Rescue Me ID: 15-03-29-00139Smokey (male)
Smokey is a sweet boy who loves everyone. He came from the shelter in AL handling the hoarding situation and we could not leave this gorgeous boy behind. He's got a mellow personality with some playful energy. He needs work on leash manners, but is learning quickly. He will be neutered as part of his adoption fee. Smokey weighs in at about 60 pounds.

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-26-00065Misty (female)
Misty is a striking husky/shepherd beauty with one blue eye and one brown eye and a coat like silk. She is housetrained, very loving and well behaved. Very little is known about Misty's background as she was pulled from our local high-kill shelter. She is very afraid of men and was adopted and returned because she was very skittish around the husband and couldn't bond with him. There is no aggression toward men, just wariness and distrust. Misty would do well in a one woman home or one with a low key couple who would be patient with her fears and give her time to realize that she is safe and loved. Misty is spayed, UTD on all shots and HW Neg. There is an adoption fee of $90 and a fenced yard might be required. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-13-00791Jujubee-Needs Foster (female)
Jujubee was a stray who is being rescued from a rural high-kill shelter in SC. She will arrive in the DC metro area soon to find a wonderful new home. This pretty girl is about 2 years old and weighs 31 lbs. While at the shelter, Jujubee made great strides in learning to live with people. She is very loving to people when she is outside her crate. But Jujubee does not do well in a crate. What she needs is someone special who will work with her to rebuild her confidence. With patience and training, Jujubee will make someone a great friend and companion. Jujubee does well with most dogs and shares her toys with them. She does okay with cats. Her favorite activities are running and playing. Since she has been living in an outdoor shelter, she will probably need some refresher training in house manners, leash walking, and basic obedience. Her adoption fee includes spay and transport to the DC area. Are you the loving person or family who can make her tail wag again? She will bring joy, happiness, and love to your heart and home. Please apply to foster or adopt Jujubee today. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-13-00087Van Gogh (male)
To anyone interested in Van, I will follow up with where he will be living, making sure you are allowed to have dogs on your property if you rent. If you are moving across country or to a different country soon, Van is not for you. Van should be kept up to date on all shots and heart worm prevention, he has already been through enough. Experience with dogs is a plus. Van Gogh is an extremely friendly dog, as you can see from the picture. Since I am an artist, I decided to name all my animals names of famous artists, he seems to like it :). I rescued Van from a shelter last August, he was extremely underweight and covered in urine; I had to get him out of the kill shelter. I have always had intentions to re-home Van due to my other 3 animals and 3 sons/children. Additionally, my house is not very large. Van does well with a leash, but will pull when he sees another dog. He started in a kennel at first, did fine until I moved it into a back room, what a mess. He now sleeps in his dog bed in the living room with the occasional accident in the morning. Another factor that may be an issue; he climbs fences though stays close if another dog is with him. I have him on a invisible fence, he does well. My schedule does not allow me to train a dog at this time, I have 3 children, I am a full time student, my husband and I own a DJ business, and I work in a gallery. With the right training and love, Van should be fine, he has already came a long way. Starting at 48 pounds when I adopted him, he is now around 65 and still needs to gain about 10 or less pounds and he is approximately 2 years old. Feel free to text any time or call after 7pm. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-14-00235Fritz (male)
Fritz is one of two husky/mix bonded dogs we got from the SPCA about 4-5 yrs ago, is neutered, chipped, and has all his shots. Appeared to have been abused previously - does not want to come into a house easily. Very good around kids and adults. We have two problems: 1) Our yard is not big enough for these dogs but 2) and more importantly, Fritz has a problem with his ACL (right rear leg) and we simply cannot afford the cost of surgery, Doesn't appear in pain but obviously favors it. Am hopeful to find a home with someone that might be able to have the surgery performed for him. As I said, he is half of a bonded pair. Mac is the other husky mix, with same behaviors. He is dark colored and has the 'blue eye - orange eye combo'. We really would prefer that they stay together, and rather than enter Mac here too, can send pics of the dog to interested parties. Am willing to deliver to anyone that is willing and able to get Fritz the surgery required. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Virginia
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
