Urgent: This animal could be euthanized if not adopted soon.

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-01-00689Kaiser (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Kaiser is an amazing, loving dog. He would be perfect for someone who doesn't have/want kids that can give him lots of love, and someone who doesn't entertain and have people over often. He has anxiety with strangers and been known to bite when people he doesn't know try to pet him. Once he trusts you fully he's very loyal. He's a great dog, I truly love him with all of my heart, but my husband and I are trying to start a family and he's not compatible with kids. He's crate trained and knows basic commands. He walks very well on a leash. He responds well to positive reinforcement training, but not very well to dominance training ... (Read More)(makes him more anxious). He weighs 45 pounds and has gorgeous blue eyes. He was in a shelter for 2 years and I've had him for about 6. If I can't find a home for him he will have to be euthanized, and that breaks my heart. I'm willing to bring him anywhere if it's a good home. I would like to have several introduction sessions with a new owner to make sure he's a good fit for you and to help you learn what makes him tick so you'll have a smooth transition and a wonderful life together. He doesn't get along with dogs (or cats) he doesn't know, but he's best friends with our border collie. I don't think it would be impossible for him to get along with another dog he lives with, I'm not sure though. He's not a dog park kind of dog. (Less)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am already neutered, housetrained, and up to date with shots. Newman's Story... Newman is a two year old mixed breed boy who is sure to be a great addition to your family. A $175 donation ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heart worm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites if needed. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as surgeries and dentals. For more information or apply to adopt at ... Rescue Me ID: 15-04-15-00178Clyde (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

If I had to write my own puppy dating profile it would probably read: Big fluffy goober puppy seeks fur-ever home! I'm Clyde... pulled today from the Tazewell shelter. I am around 2 yrs old & still havef LOTS of puppy energy and a wonderful singing voice. I need some work on my leash manners but I ride well in the car. I may be a little much for some other dogs because I do have a lot of energy so the rescue is going to require a few 'play dates' with any interested homes that have other dogs for that reason. I am UTD on shots & will be neutered and HW tested prior to moving into my new home.

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-14-00235Fritz (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Fritz is one of two husky/mix bonded dogs we got from the SPCA about 4-5 yrs ago, is neutered, chipped, and has all his shots. Appeared to have been abused previously - does not want to come into a house easily. Very good around kids and adults. We have two problems: 1) Our yard is not big enough for these dogs but 2) and more importantly, Fritz has a problem with his ACL (right rear leg) and we simply cannot afford the cost of surgery, Doesn't appear in pain but obviously favors it. Am hopeful to find a home with someone that might be able to have the surgery performed for him. As I said, he is half of a bonded pair. Mac is the other husky ... (Read More)mix, with same behaviors. He is dark colored and has the 'blue eye - orange eye combo'. We really would prefer that they stay together, and rather than enter Mac here too, can send pics of the dog to interested parties. Am willing to deliver to anyone that is willing and able to get Fritz the surgery required. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Virginia
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.

lnteresting Siberian Husky Trivia Low-Cost Virginia Spay & Neuter Clinics
Huskies were bred from dogs indigenous to the Siberian Arctic. Huskies are named after tribes of Inuits called Huskies. Teams of Huskies were used during Gunnar Kaasen's 1925 run to deliver diphtheria vaccine to Nome. The last Siberian Huskies were exported from Siberia in 1930, after which the Soviet government closed the country's borders to outside trade.
