Rescue Me ID: 16-12-01-00046Layla (female)
The time has come that we can no longer keep our Layla. She will be a great addition to the right family but right now with ours she is too much. Since the baby came home she has been acting out. It's been three months of hell for her and for us. She has also attacked our 13 year old large dog several times. Our vet believes she is confused about the 'packs' pecking order. Today was the last straw she did it again. Layla will be great in a home with no children or older kids that will have time to play and love her. Please let me know if you know if you have any questions. We want her to go to a good home. She is house broken and knows simple commands. However when she is outside she has the be leashed. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-30-00457Dobby (male)
This little guy is named Dobby a.k.a. Tyrone Rex. He is an eleven month old Husky mix that I adopted from a friend who's dog became impregnated by the dog of a mutual friend. His birthday is January 11th, 2016. I've had him since he was about 2 and a half months old. I believe his mom was a mix of Siberian husky and Greyhound, and his dad is a Staffordshire/ Pitbull mix. This mixture of breeds is a recipe for one big ball of cute and cuddly, rambunctious energy! Dobby needs to be outside and run constantly. He needs to be surrounded by chew toys and bones to keep his busy mind occupied. He would be best in a home with a big yard or with someone who likes to run. Like most high energy dogs, Dobby needs to be tired to be happy. He is also best fit for someone who could be a 24 hour companion (or close to it), as he is a NO KENNEL dog. He will bite and rip his way through the kennel as an effort to escape. He also tends to be extremely naughty when left alone or out of sight. I have an older dog in the home and, as in his playful nature, he likes to jump and chew on her. Obviously, she is not his biggest fan, but because of her docile nature, she will not defend herself. I've seen him play with other dogs in the neighborhood and he is definitely unsure of boundaries. This inability to determine boundaries translates with people, too. Any company that comes over, he loves to jump and chew on their hands. It takes quite a few stern 'NO's to get him in check. He is very persistent in his quest to play with everyone and everything. Dobby is great one on one, but resists training and is easily distracted. He will test his limits at every moment in the most comedic of ways, staying true to the Husky breed. He knows come, sit, stay, leave it, drop it, etc... The result really depends on his mood or if he believes you have something edible in your hands. He really needs a home with someone who can give him lots of love and attention and room to roam. I really can't keep him; I live in a small apartment which now has some renovations, courtesy of Dobby. As I said, he does not do well in the kennel and I'm afraid he will seriously injure himself trying to get out while my roommate and I are at work. Dobby enjoys long walks with plenty of stop and sniff breaks. He adores plushy squeaky toys; they're about the only thing he won't immediately demolish. He also loves to cuddle at bedtime and does not know where the bed ends and you begin. He also loves pig knuckles and ears, bully sticks, and also just about any other rawhide type chewy. He needs lots of things to occupy his busy self or he will turn to the walls, floors, doors, and furniture. I need to get him into a home where he thrives and isn't bored and getting into trouble. He really is a sweet little boy and he has the potential to make a really great companion! If Dobby seems like a dog you may want to love, please contact me! edit: I have plenty of photos available upon request! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-28-00543Memphis (male)
Memphis is an adorable Huskita (Husky/Akita) mix that is an absolute ham. He is an affectionate boy that loves to be with you, go on adventures or play with his toys. He absolutely adores my female Akita and they are best friends. She and him play to no end while outside. Inside, Memphis is calm and quiet unless you are entertaining him. He loves to sleep on the floor, dog beds, your bed or maybe even the couch (if you allow it). He comes from Memphis Animal Services where he was picked up as a stray and never reclaimed. He came to me heartworm positive but I have treated him with doxycycline to kill off the bacteria and then he had 2 immiticide injections to kill the worms. He was a very low-positive and never acted symptomatic but I felt it was best to get him treated soon due to the resistant strain of heartworms coming from the Midwest. He is heartworm free now and is ready to find his forever home. He is housebroken, house and crate trained, leash trained and is microchipped. The Husky side of him is a talker and he will arrooroo to you if he is happy or wants attention and you aren't giving him enough. He would absolutely love an active doggy friend, male or female, although he seems more playful around the females. Memphis loves all people and is not overly hyper around young kids; my nephew and niece are 7 and 5 years old respectively. He has not been around newborns or infants but does not have an aggressive bone in his body, he loves to give kisses and is gentle. Cats and small dogs are also an unknown and he hasn't been exposed to them here. Memphis is looking for an active family that loves to spend time outdoors, he needs a 6' fence to be able to safely play in his yard without worries. Any questions you may have please feel free to ask away or to set up a time for us to meet you and the family. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-14-00303Sasha (female)
Sasha LOVES to play with kids and adults alike. She is not currently attached to any toys, but does enjoy chewing from time to time so it's good to give her options. She NEVER barks but will talk to you from time-to-time when she needs attention. She is an escape artist of sorts so she needs a fenced yard to play in. she will pull on the leash for the first couple minutes of each walk, but quickly recognizes your authority when on the leash. We have had 2 more children since she was a pup and sadly cannot give her the attention she deserves. We hate to see her go, but know that she will have a much more enjoyable life with a family who can make her a priority. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-05-00221SAL (male)
Sal is a handsome outgoing boy, one to two years old, about 60 pounds. He loves a good run in the dog park with his friend Butter, but is not good with male dogs. Sal walks well on leash and seems to be house trained. He has some interest in playing with toys but would rather run and explore. Sal would love a home with people who like to hike and take long walks and hand out lots of attention in the evening. We have not seen him around small children but should do fine with older kids who could run and play with him.

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-01-00594Jack (male)
Breed: Beagle/Husky Mix Sex: Male (Neutered) Age: 1 year Weight: 38 lbs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Jack originally came from a family who purchased him at 8 weeks old and stuck him in a kennel in the back yard and didn't play or walk him. They finally realized that he needed to be rehomed. Rainbow took him June 2016. We found a home for him in August and just had him returned because he was too much for them. He loves to play, play, play and gets along with cats, dogs, and kids. Because of his high energy, he needs a family with older children. He tends to knock the smaller ones over in his excitement to play. He started a training class but it was suspended. You won't find a sweeter, smarter boy. If you are that active family who wants a 4 legged family member, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail email@example.com. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Virginia
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
