Prince is a very good dog I rescued from a friend in Washington state. He is very timid and very much attached to his adult family. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-25-00487SKYLAR (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SKYLAR was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th February 2015, the day he was due to be killed. SKYLAR had severe demodex mange and red in-flammed skin that is being treated and healing well. SKYLAR at the time of rescuing him was not leash trained and was very fearful of the leash, we think maybe he had been tied up outside and neglected. SKYLAR came over fearful and shy on initial meeting, but as soon as he met the dogs his confidence was re-gained, his tail was up and he started running around happily to be with his own kind. Over the first few days SKYLAR was trying to show dominance on the younger dogs, but was in ... (Read More)no way aggressive, it was more of him trying to find his place, also he had only been neutered the day before. SKYLAR does have high energy and likes to be running around playing rather than sitting relaxing, he will definitely need an active family. SKYLAR will need at minimum basic and hopefully advanced training, This not only sets the guidelines and expectations out for him, but helps a bond be formed and a clearer understand for both him and family of body language and personalities. SKYLAR is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He had tested positive for heart-worm disease which the rescue will be getting treated around the end of February. SKYLAR at time of rescue weighed around 40 pounds and has been given an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2013 (I do however, think he might be slightly younger as he acts very young - but I am not a vet!) SKYLAR is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170 Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Rescue Road Trips LLC. and P.E.T.S. LLC, both highly reputable animal rescue transport companies to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the East Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). These are private companies and their transport fee's (which is paid directly to them) are $175 and $185 per dog. This fee is in addition to what you would pay the rescue for the adoption fee. We will be happy to process and approve adopters before his heartworm treatment so as soon as he is fully healthy he can go on to start his new life. Our adoption process and fee is on our website under the APPLICATION tab. More photo's can be found by clicking on his photo under the GSD tab. www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org (Less)

Mom & dad think I should have a home better suited. 2.5yr old Siberian Husky, Rema. I love stuffed kongs & being inside. My first yr was horrible, I was tied outside 24/7, starved & neglected & abused. So I don't like to be outside that much unless with you. I hide in the back of my crate or under the bed to sleep. Due to lack of socialization I have a hard time playing with other dogs other than another male husky cause I bite too hard even though I kinda want to but not all the time, so a laid back older guy is the man for me. Due to lack of food, I'm only 40-45lbs, small & thin. Love to give kisses & sit on your lap. Love my ... (Read More)walks in the morning. Home must have husky experience, 6ft fencing and no cats. Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Emma was born about March 13, 2008 and weighs about 60 lbs. She is a little on the chunky side and could stand a nice walking routine and some veggies in her kibble. She might have gained some weight because her lifelong owner had little time for her anymore as she was gone 12 hours a day leaving Emma on her own. Emma is crate trained, but doubtful you'd need one anymore. She has been just wonderful with the other dogs and she's fine with cats. She is house trained, good on leash and loves car rides, she would just like to have human company again. She's been just wonderful with all of us, not much of a barker. Emma is said to be ... (Read More)nervous around tiny running/screaming children. We are told she can jump 3'fence, but when she does she just hangs around, maybe she was trying to follow her human. She LOVES soccer balls and other toys, still a playful pooch! She has had decent medical care and the last round of blood work was all within normal limits. This girl is here through no fault of her own and would love to find some new humans to cherish her. (Less)

Whew! We sure were getting low on dogs! Thankfully, the Williams family from Randolph, who has adopted two dogs from us, had made a donation a few weeks prior to sponsor a trip south! And Thelma and Louise said they were ready for a road trip! Alright, so I made that up, it was really Susan and Eileen who were the road ready warriors They jumped in their minivan and headed to West Virginia bringing back 18 wonderful dogs and puppies that had ended up in a high kill shelter. This shelter tries very hard to get the dogs out before their 'time is up'. We receive several emails a day begging for our help, so glad we could make this ... (Read More)journey. Thank you for choosing to rescue. Molly was born about March 7, 2013 and weighs about 50 lbs. She did well on the ride up and is great with the other dogs. This girl has wild and crazy fur! Actually, she has a wild and crazy personality to go with it! She is just full of life and fun and will need a fenced yard and another dog to help expend her energy. She is amazing, we just love her and she did great at the groomers for a little trim around her face. Her incredible fur is going to take some work and we promise she will shed a great deal so please be sure you don't mind this factor and don't get caught up in her pretty face. (Less)

I'm SO Fun to Cuddle With!!!! Raleigh was born about June 7, 2012 and weighs about 75 lbs. He is just gorgeous and his personality is equally wonderful. He ended up at a high kill pound in NC and we were lucky enough to have some room to be able to save his precious life. He is friendly, happy, did great on the 14 hour long car ride here and is now ready for a new life. He told us he's just happy to be alive and promises not to complain about our weather. He is very good with other dogs. The pound had him as a husky/lab mix, but I see white German Shepherd, love his one blue eye! This boy has thick, gorgeous, fur that is perfect for ... (Read More)running your fingers through. He is very much like a live teddy bear, the closer he can get to you the better and he will cuddle for hours. Raleigh is looking forward to your inquiry. Raleigh went for an overnight stay with one of our volunteers and this is what she had to say: I know you were looking for some feedback regarding his stay with me: 1) He was perfect in the car. He laid down on the ride to and from the cottage and was quiet'|never made a sound. 2) He pulled on the leash a bit but that was to be expected. 3) He learned very quickly where the door was to go outside and he didn't have any accidents in the house. 4) He learned the commands of sit, stay, down, come and paw very quickly. 5) He never barked and was very calm at all times. 6) He followed me to every room and even waited for me outside of the bathroom when I took a shower. 7) He LOVED to be petted and he LOVED to cuddle! He laid with me on the couch and slept next to me on the bed at night. 8) I was able to pet him in any area with absolutely no problems, including his paws and tail. I also let him lick my plate so I could test his response while I pet his head, underneath his chin, paws and tail and he was completely calm. 9) Overall, Raleigh was one of the sweetest and most respectful dogs I've ever met. He has a great potential to be with a single person home (or family depending on his interaction). I was very surprised and I would take him home in a heartbeat if I could. He was very jovial yet calm. (Less)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I'm One of the Tanner Collection! Our friends in a Tennessee shelter were bursting at the seems with dogs and begging us to visit again so no one had to die just because of overcrowding. We said we were sorry, but didn't have the room right then. We were all very happy that the next week was a wonderful adoption week and so the trip was planned! Denise and Cheryl left here at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday for a whirlwind trip managing to save the lives of 12 dogs, 2 adorable 5 week old shepherd pups and two gorgeous kittens! Everyone was a bit weary when they arrived here at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, but soon their confused eyes softened into a look ... (Read More)of understanding. The lucky 16 will have the last name of Tanner and we are eternally grateful to Christine, a supporter and volunteer as she sponsored this trip south. Tanner is Christine's canine companion and we are told he is very spoiled. Every time Christine goes home from volunteering she tells him how lucky he is and she says this is his way of paying it forward. The two nameless pups are Drew and Brook, named after Christine's niece and nephew. Thank you Christine! Chewbacca Tanner was born about January 14, 2009 and weighs about 85 lbs. How could we leave her behind? Well, we couldn't once we saw photos of her out for show and tells in the community. What a ham she was acting cute and funny like a silly pup. This girl surely knows how pretty she is! Chewy does have some rear end weakness and will benefit from a diet and supplements such as glucosamine and chondroitin. She's very good with the other dogs. Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Sophie is one in a million, both in her appearance and her personality. She is a gorgeous and loving dog who has come so far and is now ready to truly be part of a family! Sophie was born in a home that was breeding their pit bull/husky mix with their other pit bull to create 'Pitski' hybrids that they could sell for several thousand dollars apiece. For some reason, they could not sell Sophie or 6 of her siblings, so they placed each one in a crate and never brought them outside, never socialized them with any other people, and from the condition they were in when we took them in, they very rarely cleaned their cages. When we first met ... (Read More)Sophie, she had recently given birth to puppies that they took from her to sell, and she had no clue how to trust people, because she had never known a kind stranger. It took a few days to gain her trust but once we did, Sophie began an amazing transformation. Today Sophie is nothing like the scared seven-month-old puppy we met a year ago. She knows what it is like to be loved and she knows now what toys are, how to walk on a leash, and even how to run around and play, things she never knew in the first half of her life. She has going through basic and advanced obedience training, and has learned how to properly meet new people. Where it used to take days for her to bond to someone, it now takes a few moments and a handful of cookies and she will roll over to anyone for a tummy rub! This girl has come so far and needs a home that will help her continue to progress as she grows up. We would prefer for her to be an only pet in an adult only home that will adore her and treasure her for the incredible soul she is. Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This gorgeous boy is Rocky! He has the eyes, point ears, and curly tail of a husky, with the personality and build of a pittie! He is a very intelligent, motivated and fun loving dog. In his short life of one and a half years he has been through a lot, but also has come a long way towards living the life he always deserved! Rocky was initially owned by a family that were breeding their husky/pit bull mix with their other pit bull and selling off the puppies. For some reason, his litter did not sell the way they expected they would, and months later they found themselves with too many dogs in too little space and called our shelter to help. ... (Read More)We took in seven of these dogs, Rocky being one of them, and have since placed all but three. These dogs were crated 24 hours a day, never taken outside of the apartment, and never given the socialization or training required for a puppy. Because Rocky grew up in this environment, at his age he is still very much a puppy. He is still mischievous and learning his boundaries, but he has come a very long way in the past few months! This boy is a staff favorite and has been through advanced obedience training. Any family that adopts him will receive free training consultations and lifelong training assistance so he can continue to grow into the amazing dog he was always meant to be. Because he has this training protocol, we want Rocky to begin living as the only pet in a house without children. This way his new family will be able to focus on leaning his training routine. He loves long walks, playing in the water, and running around with other dogs! Please take a chance on this smart and handsome boy and set up an appointment to meet him today! He deserves the chance at his dream home! For more information, please check out our website at www.adoptadog.org or call Adopt-A-Dog at 914-273-1674. (Less)

I Can't Help It, I'm A Husky! Tasha was born about November 18, 2011 and will fill out to weigh about 50 lbs. This girl came to us after having pups that were all given away except for one and so now was a good time for mom to find a new home. We were told she had to come here because she would run off and they couldn't afford to keep getting her back from dog control. Huskies are gorgeous creatures, but a Husky is a Husky and they need to be fenced or leashed at all times, they run as they were bred to do. She is also very good with other dogs and cats, but may chase if they run, this is a game to her. She does pull some on leash (well....she's a Husky) and we are told she can't digest Alpo food very well. I can't imagine what she was eating as she arrived with her coat bristly, lackluster and thin. She is a good listener, plays with the kids and is known to dig a hole or two. This pretty, sweet, girl, is homeless because she is what she is and ended up in the wrong home because she was a gorgeous pup. She deserves a wonderful home from now on and we promised her we would find it!!!! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in New York
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
