Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00288Sophie (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sophie is one in a million, both in her appearance and her personality. She is a gorgeous and loving dog who has come so far and is now ready to truly be part of a family! Sophie was born in a home that was breeding their pit bull/husky mix with their other pit bull to create 'Pitski' hybrids that they could sell for several thousand dollars apiece. For some reason, they could not sell Sophie or 6 of her siblings, so they placed each one in a crate and never brought them outside, never socialized them with any other people, and from the condition they were in when we took them in, they very rarely cleaned their cages. When we first met ... (Read More)Sophie, she had recently given birth to puppies that they took from her to sell, and she had no clue how to trust people, because she had never known a kind stranger. It took a few days to gain her trust but once we did, Sophie began an amazing transformation. Today Sophie is nothing like the scared seven-month-old puppy we met a year ago. She knows what it is like to be loved and she knows now what toys are, how to walk on a leash, and even how to run around and play, things she never knew in the first half of her life. She has going through basic and advanced obedience training, and has learned how to properly meet new people. Where it used to take days for her to bond to someone, it now takes a few moments and a handful of cookies and she will roll over to anyone for a tummy rub! This girl has come so far and needs a home that will help her continue to progress as she grows up. We would prefer for her to be an only pet in an adult only home that will adore her and treasure her for the incredible soul she is. If you are that family, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online www.adopt-a-dog.org. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00285Rocky (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This gorgeous boy is Rocky! He has the eyes, point ears, and curly tail of a husky, with the personality and build of a pittie! He is a very intelligent, motivated and fun loving dog. In his short life of one and a half years he has been through a lot, but also has come a long way towards living the life he always deserved! Rocky was initially owned by a family that were breeding their husky/pit bull mix with their other pit bull and selling off the puppies. For some reason, his litter did not sell the way they expected they would, and months later they found themselves with too many dogs in too little space and called our shelter to help. ... (Read More)We took in seven of these dogs, Rocky being one of them, and have since placed all but three. These dogs were crated 24 hours a day, never taken outside of the apartment, and never given the socialization or training required for a puppy. Because Rocky grew up in this environment, at his age he is still very much a puppy. He is still mischievous and learning his boundaries, but he has come a very long way in the past few months! This boy is a staff favorite and has been through advanced obedience training. Any family that adopts him will receive free training consultations and lifelong training assistance so he can continue to grow into the amazing dog he was always meant to be. Because he has this training protocol, we want Rocky to begin living as the only pet in a house without children. This way his new family will be able to focus on leaning his training routine. He loves long walks, playing in the water, and running around with other dogs! Please take a chance on this smart and handsome boy and set up an appointment to meet him today! He deserves the chance at his dream home! For more information, please check out our website at www.adoptadog.org or call Adopt-A-Dog at 914-273-1674. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-22-00159SKYLAR (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SKYLAR was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th February 2015, the day he was due to be killed. SKYLAR had severe demodex mange and red in-flammed skin that is being treated and healing well. SKYLAR at the time of rescuing him was not leash trained and was very fearful of the leash, we think maybe he had been tied up outside and neglected. SKYLAR came over fearful and shy on initial meeting, but as soon as he met the dogs his confidence was re-gained, his tail was up and he started running around happily to be with his own kind. Over the first few days SKYLAR was trying to show dominance on the younger dogs, but was in no ... (Read More)way aggressive, it was more of him trying to find his place, also he had only been neutered the day before. SKYLAR does have high energy and likes to be running around playing rather than sitting relaxing, he will definitely need an active family. SKYLAR will need at minimum basic and hopefully advanced training, This not only sets the guidelines and expectations out for him, but helps a bond be formed and a clearer understand for both him and family of body language and personalities. SKYLAR is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He had tested positive for heart-worm disease which the rescue will be getting treated around the end of February. SKYLAR at time of rescue weighed around 40 pounds and has been given an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2013 (I do however, think he might be slightly younger as he acts very young - but I am not a vet!) SKYLAR is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170 We will be happy to process and approve adopters before his heartworm treatment so as soon as he is fully healthy he can go on to start his new life. Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Rescue Road Trips LLC. and P.E.T.S. LLC, both highly reputable animal rescue transport companies to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the East Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). These are private companies and their transport fee's (which is paid directly to them) are $175 and $185 per dog. This fee is in addition to what you would pay the rescue for the adoption fee. Our adoption process and fee is on our website under the APPLICATION tab. More photo's can be found by clicking on his photo under the GSD tab. www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org (Less)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I Can't Help It, I'm A Husky! Tasha was born about November 18, 2011 and will fill out to weigh about 50 lbs. This girl came to us after having pups that were all given away except for one and so now was a good time for mom to find a new home. We were told she had to come here because she would run off and they couldn't afford to keep getting her back from dog control. Huskies are gorgeous creatures, but a Husky is a Husky and they need to be fenced or leashed at all times, they run as they were bred to do. If you have not had a Husky before, and you are interested in Tasha, please do some research. Tasha grew up with tiny ... (Read More)children and was always wonderful. She is also very good with other dogs and cats, but may chase if they run, this is a game to her. She does pull some on leash (well....she's a Husky) and we are told she can't digest Alpo food very well. I can't imagine what she was eating as she arrived with her coat bristly, lackluster and thin. She is a good listener, plays with the kids and is known to dig a hole or two. This pretty, sweet, girl, is homeless because she is what she is and ended up in the wrong home because she was a gorgeous pup. She deserves a wonderful home from now on and we promised her we would find it!!!! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in New York
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
