Rescue Me ID: 16-08-04-00019unk... Tires (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current, Malnourished, Abused/Neglected

On my drive cross country, I met this dog 'TIRES' two days ago (8/1/16 4pm) at a run down tire shop on the rough side of Modesto... I noticed a workman hosing this dog down to help cool it. I inquired and the man explained the dog showed up early that morning and was in severe distress from the heat and pain from a severe tick infestation. The dog laid down in a puddle of oil and dirt next to the recycler bin. COVERED IN OIL AND TICKS. He wouldn't eat any of the apple pie I offered him, or any other stuff from the shop. The man said when 5pm came he would have to put the dog outside their business gate. I offered to take the animal to ... (Read More)Stanislaus animal control, and we laid a blanket over the back seat and put the dog in my truck. On the way, after some reflection, I changed my mind realizing he most probably would have been euthanized due to the condition he was in. So, after much research and many communications, I eventually took 'TIRES' to a veterinary ER on Prescott where he received fantastic care. The clinic administered Bravecto, antibiotics, sedated and shaved him, and rehydrated. I am exhausted from sleeping outside the clinic waiting for Tires. The staff at the clinic judged him to be a few years old and most probably had been on the street for close to a year telling from his condition (over a THOSAND ticks, yes), stating he probably wouldn't have lasted another two weeks. So, I sorta helped him get a new lease on life, but unfortunately am unable to keep this little fella for a myriad of reasons, but am hopeful someone can pick up from where I can leave off. He needs a special owner, he is a special guy'| very affectionate in a weird feral way, he doesn't know how to cuddle so he just pushes his nose under your arm and comes up for air to give you little licks sporadically'| after the tough street life he appears to be extra alert in his energy, but then surprisingly calms down, he knows sit and is extremely food motivated'| and is adorable with his one blue and one brown eye looking at you for the next cookie. I will only let him go to someone who will promise to put in the investment of re-socializing him into a forever home that will be dedicated, on top of his $700 haircut, LOL, I will pay for any additional vaccinations/medical needed right now. Someone is going to have to convince me that they will keep him forever, and dedicate himself or herself to this little 45lb husky rascal. He does well in the car, but is hesitant to go in a crate of be picked up into it, but eventually negotiates after a piece of food is thrown into the equation. Just in the past two days, he is really coming around and if feeling safer and wags his tails and smiles, yes dogs smile : ) (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Nevada
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Nevada if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
