Rescue Me ID: 15-07-12-00571Akira and Aquinnah (female)

Siberian Husky    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Looking for a loving new home for my two huskies with special conditions required to ensure my beloved dogs find the right forever home. Aquinnah (spayed female approximately 50 pounds) and Akira (neutered male approximately 80 pounds) are brother and sister, both 5 years old in good health and have been together since they were born. Both huskies must go to the same home as they would be heartbroken (and howl) if separated. They are the friendliest, most loving dogs you will likely meet and have done great playing with other dogs, including smaller dogs, though they have had limited contact with other dogs. They have been raised in a large ... (Read More)outdoor kennel and thus are not housebroken but are crate trained. They are extremely smart and might be able to be housebroken with time and patience. Aquinnah and Akira are high energy dogs and require a home where they can run. They love people and need a home where they get lots of attention. They are very jumpy when first greeted but settle down after spending time with them. They are also master escape artists and special care to prevent them from getting loose is required. They must be walked on a leash. I am uncertain if an invisible fence would work for these dogs as this has not previously been used. They also have not been around cats in the past and have attacked our neighbors chickens. Additionally, Huskies blow their coats twice a year and shed immense amounts of fur. They are currently in the process of blowing their coats and will have a beautiful new coat in about 2-3 weeks. An interview with prospective new owners is required to ensure you are prepared to be new parents to these beautiful and loving dogs who require a great deal of time and responsibility, as well as visitation rights (supervised with mutually agreed upon terms OK) and a rehoming fee of $200 will be charged but returned after 1 year if you show me you have provided a loving home for both dogs (contract to be signed). The picture on this site is of Aquinnah, her brother is an all white blue eyed husky. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Massachusetts
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Massachusetts if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
