Rescue Me ID: 16-01-18-00635Rocky (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Rocky is a beautiful, intelligent mix who had a rough background with folks who didn't quite know what to do with him. Born with a natural intelligence and the strong instincts of two high-maintenance breeds, he still did not receive any formal training and was often just locked out in the backyard, where he was often antagonized by a human neighbor. Eventually Rocky defended himself and his owners decided to euthanize him unless someone would take him immediately. Luckily, someone stepped in and worked with Rocky for some time, even getting him to do well with other dogs and beginning to correct his lack of training. Unfortunately this ... (Read More)person could no longer keep him for living arrangement reasons and sought help but we have not been able to find any. Rocky is currently in boarding in Vermont but we need to get him out of there asap as it can not have any positive effects on his behavior and need for a consistent environment. I am spending everything I have to keep Rocky from euthanasia but I and the woman who originally saved him are at our wits end. Rocky needs a strong and EXPERIENCED handler and would do best in a home with no children and perhaps another dog or two. He would also flourish as an only dog. He would do best with an owner who has lots of time for him and enjoys exercise, particularly the kind he can join in on! With dog handling expertise, enough exercise, and the proper training, Rocky would be the most fantastic companion one could hope for. He needs an experienced owner because he does need more training and consistency- he is very intelligent and picks up on the slightest behavioral cues from body language to vocal tones. It is especially important for Rocky to have enough space if there are other animals in a home, as that would decrease unavoidable confrontations and stress. Please please PLEASE help us find this boy a home. (Less)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Banjo! I'm a 9 year old, 60 lb Staffordshire Terrier/Husky mix and I am sweet, sweet, sweet! I'm great with kids, I'm housebroken and crate trained, and I'm very well behaved. I'm relaxed inside the house and love snuggling on the sofa! I'm not comfortable with other dogs, so I'd rather be your one and only pet. You can see more pictures of me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.737570959710788.1073741983.190653607735862&type=3 If you are interested in finding out more about Banjo, please fill out an application on our website by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: ... NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Massachusetts
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Massachusetts if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
