Rescue Me ID: 17-06-14-00618Gibbs (male)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Gibbs. Husky lovers are really going to love this guy. Gibbs was a local stray whose family could not be found, but thankfully he knew just the right home to go to for help. The finders have been taking excellent care of Gibbs while we arranged his vetting and could start the search for his forever home. Gibbs is about 4 years old and such a super guy. Gibbs has won everyone over with his friendly disposition and good nature. He seems to be good with other dogs. Unfortunately, the finders' dogs don't love Gibbs and have to mostly keep the dogs separated. Even with the other dogs not loving him, he has kept up his spirits and doesn't ... (Read More)mind their grumpiness. We don't know how Gibbs is with cats--there haven't been any willing testers. As for kids, he would probably be fine with any kids who know how to be gentle and kind to dogs. He is pretty laid back and would probably appreciate a non-chaos environment. An ideal forever home for Gibbs will have a fenced yard and also the willingness to give him proper husky exercise. He does seem to want to be near his people whenever possible, but does well being confined to his own space in the house without issue. Gibbs is now neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is housebroken. His experience with crates is not known. If you would like to meet Gibbs, please complete an application in the link below. Please include any questions directly on the application. The adoption fee for Gibbs is $175. http://www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting.html (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-28-00203Max looking for love (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It has been awhile since we posted Max. We have received a few nibbles, but nothing has been the right fit. When a dog stays in any program for a long time, potential adopters start to think that there is something wrong with the dog--he or she is broken. In Max's case he has a couple of specific requirements, but is other wise one of the sweetest and funniest guys we have had in the program. Here's everything you need to know about him. Our most handsome guy has quite the history. Max is a 2-year-old golden retriever/husky mix who bounced around to a few homes before he became a PawSwaP dog. Once in our program we had to test a couple of ... (Read More)homes before we learned what kind of home would best suit his needs. Last year we thought we had found just the right home to accommodate some of the emotional scars that remain from his rough beginning. Unfortunately, the environment was the fit we had hoped for. Let's start with everything that is awesome about Max. Max is a very sweet, loving, affectionate guy who is very loyal and trusting of his people. He used to need a little time to warm up to strangers, but this seems to have improved quite a bit.He loves to cuddle and be loved on, but he isn't a pest. He can also chill out at your feet and entertain himself with a ball. Max is also tons of fun to play with and is pretty comical when he gets in the right mood. Max has also attended a couple of training classes where he learned leash skills and numerous commands. Max is very smart and loves to be rewarded for good behavior. He is also food motivated and willing to learn new things as much as anyone will work with him. Although he has had quite a bit of training Max is still learning. Max has shared a home with older children and has been successful. We would not recommend a home with smaller children. And here's what makes Max a tough placement. First and foremost, Max must be an only pet in his forever home. He is not good with cats nor dogs, and if given the opportunity, Max will chase both. For this reason, Max MUST have a fenced yard. Max's other issue his separation anxiety. He cannot live in an apartment because he barks as soon as he is left alone. He does eventually settle in, but it takes awhile and in the meantime could annoy neighbors sharing a common wall. Max also struggles in crates, but needs to be crated when unsupervised. It takes a little work to make him feel secure, but he does get the hang of it after some practice and has been crated in his past homes, he just doesn't love it. Max is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and microchipped. He is solidly housebroken and is very well behaved when supervised. Max is currently on Prozac which seems to have really helped with the separation and anxiety and his confinement issues. He really is a relaxed, regular guy these days. If you think you can offer Max a fantastic foster or forever home please complete a required application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Max will need a fenced yard and a home with no other pets. His adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-03-00200Gabby (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Meet Gabby. This pretty girl is a 5-year-old lab /husky mix who is looking for a forever family that is home a bit more than her currently family is. She is a medium-energy girl who can sometimes be shy at first. This is usually also connected to being in a strange environment. Gabby has lived with another dog her whole life., but sadly, the other dog is older and not much of a playmate to her--something that would probably be listed on top of Gabby's wish list for her new home. Gabby has also lived with small children. She is gentle and patient as long as the kids know how to be gentle and patient with her. Gabby has never shared her home ... (Read More)with cats, but we think she would do just fine. She might chase a cat, but wouldn't intentionally hurt one. Gabby is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is solidly housebroken, but does not like to be crated. She is trustworthy without a crate as long as things are kept out of her reach such as food and shoes. She does get anxious if she is left alone for too long or if it storms. If you would like to meet Gabby, please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Her adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-30-00303Fallon (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Very High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

*********If a dog is listed on this site, they are still available for adoption. Before a meet and greet can be set up, we require an adoption application be filled out. You can find an application at www.waldosmuttleycrew.org****** Fallon 2 year old anatoilian shepherd/husky 70 lbs good with people & older kids; good with medium & large sizes dogs No cats! Adoption fee $200 Fallon is such a beautiful girl!!!!! She is strikingly good looking and gets complements all the time but she doesn't let it go to her head! She's a tomboy who likes to rough & tumble and chase more than anything; playing with other dogs is ... (Read More)definitely her favorite thing to do. When we got her, she'd been abused so was timid with new people, especially men. But she's blossomed into a happy, well-adjusted girl who enjoys attention and getting her ears scratched. She's active so would be a great running partner but would be equally happy racing around the back yard after toys. Her favored playmates are males ... she's not a 'girly-girl' but she is fine with females; she just doesn't really romp with them. Because of her anatolian heritage, she instinctively is protective of her people and property. When her foster mom is around, she's very social and friendly with visitors. But if strangers appear and mom's not home, Fallon is definitely stand-offish. She's extremely loyal and very eager to please so would excel in obedience training, She appears to be potty trained and, although she loves toys (especially the squeaky ones!), she is not destructive with them. She is protective of her food with other dogs (but not with people) so isn't recommended in a home with children under 10 years old. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Indiana
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
