We would like to find a good home for a Siberian Husky. I don't want to have to return her to FW Animal Care and Control and their 'no guarantee' policy. However, anybody with interest should probably go through their background check and application process in order to do a transfer of ownership properly. The shelter told us that that protects us in the future as well. She's a good dog but just more maintenance than we want to handle at this point, especially with the possibility of traveling, starting a family and house size. Space, time, our lifestyle and future plans just don't adequately permit an animal anymore. It would be great if the home had another dog that she could play with because she likes companions. We don't have other dogs and were told this might help with the separation anxiety that she sometimes experiences (common for Huskies). Huskies are playful and energetic so an active home where she would get plenty of exercise would also be necessary. She is very friendly but does jump on people when excited. Huskies like to run so a fenced in yard is needed. Her previous owner kept her outside all day, and she would escape. However, we've kept her as an indoor dog and never had an issue with her digging or escaping out of our fence. Also, Huskies shed their significant undercoat, so vacuuming the house frequently and brushing is something for which to be prepared. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-06-00264Doak Anderson (male)
We are sad to let our beloved Doak go. Please email or call if interested. He is a wonderful boy. He is used to daily exercise of bike rides or runs and playing chase. We have always cooked food for him. He snapped at our 17 month old last weekend. He has never demonstrated this behavior before and it was over food. He does ok with female dogs but is dominant over food only. We have had him since he was 6 weeks old and he's been a family member since. This is very hard on us and he deserves the best home.

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-05-00078Chloe (female)
I recently inherited a very sweet dog named Chloe.. shes about 40lbs.. white.. looks almost like a husky but she was a rescue.. well trained.. my only issue is that I just cannot be home enough for her.. she was used to having someone around all the time so I believe she has separation issues.. she doesnt chew up anything just has torn up some carpet and i live in an apartment and cant have that. As long as im home shes a great dog.. tells you when she wants to go out and just hangs out near you.. she just needs someone with more time for her and ive tried i just cant be there enough for her..

I am 4 years old. Jake is a wonderful and friendly guy! He does like to climb a fence, though, so a careful eye should be kept on him.

Rescue Me ID: 13-10-20-00610Rixie (female)
Rixie: 2 year old german shepherd / husky mix 70 lbs; potty trained; good with people, kids, some dogs 'You will never meet a more faithful and devoted girl than our 2 year old Rixie! When she chooses her favorite human, that lucky someone becomes her everything ... the light of her life ... the alpha to her omega. Although she saves a special place in her heart for her cherished person, she's friendly and congenial with everyone she meets. Her eyes light up, her tail wags and she gives the nicest kisses if you come over to meet her. She adores car rides, playing with toys and making new friends; she's also potty trained and crate trained so will be easy to transition to a new home. Because of the strength of Rixie's affinity for her treasured individual, she prefers to be an only dog so that she can enjoy being the center of attention. Her adoption fee is $150; she's spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.' (Less)

Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
