Meet Max. Our most handsome guy has quite the history. Max is a 2-year-old golden retriever/husky mix who bounced around to a few homes before he became a PawSwaP dog. Once in our program we had to test a couple of homes before we learned what kind of home would best suit his needs. Last year we thought we had found just the right home to accommodate some of the emotional scars that remain from his rough beginning. Unfortunately, although the family really tried, Max had to return to us. Let's start with everything that is awesome about Max. Max is a very sweet, loving, affectionate guy who is very loyal and trusting of his people. He used ... (Read More)to need a little time to warm up to strangers, but this seems to have improved quite a bit. Max is also tons of fun to play with and is pretty comical when he gets in the right mood. Max has also attended a couple of training classes where he learned leash skills and numerous commands. Max is very smart and loves to be rewarded for good behavior. He is also food motivated and willing to learn new things as much as anyone will work with him. Although he has had quite a bit of training Max is still learning. Max has shared a home with older children and has been successful. We would not recommend a home with smaller children. And here's what makes Max a tough placement. First and foremost, Max must be an only pet in his forever home. He is not good with cats nor dogs, and if given the opportunity, Max will chase both. For this reason, Max MUST have a fenced yard. Max's other issue his separation anxiety. He cannot live in an apartment because he bark as soon as he is left alone. He does eventually settle in, but it takes awhile and in the meantime could annoy neighbors sharing a common wall. Max also struggles in crates, but needs to be crated when unsupervised. It takes a little work to make him feel secure, but he does get the hang of it after some practice and has been crated in his past homes, he just doesn't love it. Max is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and microchipped. He is solidly housebroken and is very well behaved when supervised. If you think you can offer Max a fantastic foster or forever home please complete a required application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Max will need a fenced yard and a home with no other pets. His adoption fee is $150. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Indiana
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.

lnteresting Siberian Husky Trivia Low-Cost Indiana Spay & Neuter Clinics
Huskies were bred from dogs indigenous to the Siberian Arctic. Huskies were imported to Alaska during the Nome Gold Rush. Huskies are named after tribes of Inuits called Huskies. Teams of Huskies were used during Gunnar Kaasen's 1925 run to deliver diphtheria vaccine to Nome. The last Siberian Huskies were exported from Siberia in 1930, after which the Soviet government closed the country's borders to outside trade.
