Rescue Me ID: 14-12-06-00157Baby Girl (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We have been fostering Baby Girl since last April. Her mom finally gave relinquished custody two weeks ago and we spayed her and made sure she got all her tests and shots. She has striking Husky pale blue eyes and conformation. Her mother was supposed to be purebred, but we don't know about the father. We love Baby Girl. She is a wonderful and loving companion, but we have an 8 year old Dalmatian who doesn't want any part of her and we have had to keep them separate. She gets along great with the neighbor's dogs and our little one. Other than occasionally chasing one of our cats for play (she stops immediately when I reprimand her), she ... (Read More)has never shown aggression and they aren't afraid of her. She gets along great with most people, big and little, but she is a little skittish around some people at first. Again, I have never seen any aggression towards people, but when she doesn't immediately take to someone, I will introduce them more slowly to her. The is probably the smartest dog I have ever owned and would be a dream to train, we just don't have the time or energy. We have spoiled her, but she isn't to the point of being rotten. She is also incredibly agile and an amazing jumper. She often perches 'Snoopy-style' on top of our pool shed. One of the challenges of a very smart young dog is that she loves to figure things out, like a toddler. She used to get into all kinds of mischief. It probably took her a half a day to figure out she could open our new front door and she had everybody wondering why the door would be opened when we turned around. The good thing about being so smart is that she figures out pretty quickly that something isn't acceptable and stops doing it after she a few times (usually). If I had a perfect family in mind, they would love her and commit to keeping her forever. They would train her. They would have another dog for her to play with and she would have room to run. She loves being outdoors, but she likes being inside with her family, too. I said she is average energy, but she can be very playful and loves chew toys and wrestling with ropes and running, which one would expect with a young girl like her. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-25-00598Jackson (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Blond and blue-eyed (well, at least in ONE eye!) =) Jackson is the whole package! Handsome, athletic and well-mannered! A gorgeous young Lab/Husky mix, Jackson has a lot of love to give! Crate trained and good on a leash, Jackson likes other dogs and does well with children. A very good boy, Jackson was picked up as a stray and when his owners were contacted, they couldn't take him back. The good news is that means that your family now has the chance to adopt this fantastic dog! He is doing very well on house breaking, and hasn't chewed on anything other than his toys since being in his foster home. An energetic dog, Jackson also likes ... (Read More)time to relax, and calms down nicely when it's time to lay about. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard, as he does like to run around a lot. He sleeps through the night and is a very sweet and loving up, who loves deep massages and snuggle time as much as romping about. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-13-00750Piper (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

DOB 2/14/13 Piper was a stray in rural Missouri, a place where dogs are commonly left behind when the owners move or can no longer afford their care. Many of these pups don't make it, but Piper was lucky enough to be found by a compassionate soul that arranged for her to join our rescue. Our best guess is that she is a husky/shepherd mix, but we are sure there are several other beeds that contribute to her stunning looks and amazing intelligence. Piper is about 18 months old and is very smart! She is potty trained, crate trained, walks great on a leash, knows all basic commands, and rides well in a car. She loves to play with other dogs, ... (Read More)go on long walks and run around in the backyard. Piper can also be silly and makes her fosters laugh at how goofy and cute she is. If you are looking for a pup that is well rounded and lively, Piper would like to meet you! Piper does not have very small children in her foster home. She does still have the energy of a puppy and wants to play with everyone. Small children may occasionally be overwhelmed with her size and energy level. We have also discovered that Piper does not appreciate the curiosity of cats! Piper is a wonderful, sweet dog that is looking for a HOME to call her very OWN! Standard adoption fee is $295 and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email Kathy for an application at (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-07-00681Kayla (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Kayla is a lovable and good-natured, 20-month-old, 30-pound, three-legged shepherd/husky-mix looking for a loving guardian. Kayla is full of kisses and tail wags for everyone she meets - people and other dogs. Kayla landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control after being hit by a car. Her left rear leg was so badly mangled it had to be amputated. Kayla is such a sweet, happy, wiggly girl, you notice her great personality, before you notice the missing limb. Kayla is housebroken and crate-trained. She is surprisingly strong on leash, so she needs some work on her leash manners. Kayla LOVES other dogs - big and small - and is looking ... (Read More)for a family with at least one other dog. And, preferably that home will only have a few stairs for Kayla to climb. Kayla is healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. To meet and possibly adopt her, please fill in an adoption application at and follow up by contacting or 773-770-5115. Her adoption fee of $200 benefits the rescued pets of Rain Dog Rescue. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-07-00506Lakota (female)

Siberian Husky    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Lakota is a beautiful, loyal and loving 13-year-old, 68-pound, female, blue-eyed Siberian Husky looking for a loving guardian. Lakota bonds very tightly and adoringly with her human. She lived with a man her entire life, but he passed away in July. Lakota walks beautifully on leash, in fact she loves long walks - even in the winter. She is housebroken, well-mannered and non-destructive in the home. She has seldom energetic moments. When she's not going for a walk, she enjoys her beautfy sleep, and snores loudly. She is wonderful with all my other dogs '| and, although I haven't tried, I've heard she's not so good with cats and rabbits. ... (Read More)She is a little stiff and arthritic in her hips so she doesn't like it when other dogs jump on her. She's great in the car once you help her get in and she's fine going up and down about six stairs to get in the house, but she can no longer go up a whole flight of stairs. She never gets on furniture beyond a dog bed. She's never lived with children and is a little hand-shy, but she gives lots of appreciative kisses if you let her. Lakota is a healthy senior, spayed, micro-chipped, fecal and heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. She's even had complete blood-work and urinalysis. She has been recently diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism, so she is on twice daily (inexpensive meds) for that. She also takes supplements for her arthritis. She is currently staying with me in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. To meet and possibly adopt Lakota please contact or 773-777-2891. Her adoption fee of $150 benefits rescued pets and includes her meds, supplements and favorite foods. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Illinois
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
