Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Mishka a 9yr old female spayed needs new home due to death and illness of her previous owners. She has received a 3yr rabies vaccine from Ashton Animal Hospital which will not need to be renewed until 1/19/2018. Mishka is well trained and highly intelligent. She likes to run and needs a lot of attention. I have not had her off leash as she has a good nose and keen eyesight and will chase squirrels and other animals. She will need a safe and secure dog run or kennel when left alone. She gets along well with cats as long as the cats are accepting of her. Mishka can be possessive of treats and her dog bowl and will guard these items. She can ... (Read More)also be a bit possessive of her pack leader human when other dogs are around. Best if she is the only dog in her new home and unfortunately does not ride in cars or trucks well (she shakes and pants but does stay in her seat). She will follow her new human everywhere while in the home and likes to sleep in bed, but will sleep on the floor if you ask her too. All interested persons will be interviewed, homes inspected and any past veterinary records of previously owned pets will need to be reviewed in order to assure that she is going into a secure and loving home. If interested please call Peggy at 815-627-9538. At this time Mishka is located in Earlville Illinois (Less)

Mya is a gorgeous, gentle and very friendly 2 year old female German Shepherd/Husky mix. This gorgeous girl was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky with her 6 beautiful puppies (also available for adoption). Mya has honestly been one of the best mama dogs we have had come through our doors. She's taken wonderful care of her babies and is very attentive and affectionate towards them. Mom's job is done and her pups are weaned, so now it's time for all of them to find their forever homes! Mya loves people and is very friendly and gentle. She has her playful moments, but is generally more on the mellow side. She's very quiet and well ... (Read More)behaved in the home and will fit in easily in most households. Rescue Me ID: 14-12-06-00157Baby Girl (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We have been fostering Baby Girl since last April. Her mom finally gave relinquished custody two weeks ago and we spayed her and made sure she got all her tests and shots. She has striking Husky pale blue eyes and conformation. Her mother was supposed to be purebred, but we don't know about the father. We love Baby Girl. She is a wonderful and loving companion, but we have an 8 year old Dalmatian who doesn't want any part of her and we have had to keep them separate. She gets along great with the neighbor's dogs and our little one. Other than occasionally chasing one of our cats for play (she stops immediately when I reprimand her), she ... (Read More)has never shown aggression and they aren't afraid of her. She gets along great with most people, big and little, but she is a little skittish around some people at first. Again, I have never seen any aggression towards people, but when she doesn't immediately take to someone, I will introduce them more slowly to her. The is probably the smartest dog I have ever owned and would be a dream to train, we just don't have the time or energy. We have spoiled her, but she isn't to the point of being rotten. She is also incredibly agile and an amazing jumper. She often perches 'Snoopy-style' on top of our pool shed. One of the challenges of a very smart young dog is that she loves to figure things out, like a toddler. She used to get into all kinds of mischief. It probably took her a half a day to figure out she could open our new front door and she had everybody wondering why the door would be opened when we turned around. The good thing about being so smart is that she figures out pretty quickly that something isn't acceptable and stops doing it after she a few times (usually). If I had a perfect family in mind, they would love her and commit to keeping her forever. They would train her. They would have another dog for her to play with and she would have room to run. She loves being outdoors, but she likes being inside with her family, too. I said she is average energy, but she can be very playful and loves chew toys and wrestling with ropes and running, which one would expect with a young girl like her. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-11-00583Ty (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This handsome boy was in a very high kill animal shelter and was going to be put down due to space. His family who had him left him there to die because he wouldn't stay home. He can jump a 4 foot fence, he no longer does here. They said he was 2 years old, he is now 3 years old. He has been waiting a year now for his very own home. He is black with a gray muzzle, and built like a husky, moves and acts like a husky and can yodel, but has semi floppy ears, weighs about 55 pounds, he was very skinny when we first rescued him. He is sweet, bold, and fine with most dogs, even small dogs. He loves attention once he know you but until then is very ... (Read More)indifferent and unsure. He has a more independent personality here where he only gets a bit of attention as he is let in and out to play in the yard from the kennel. He has little interest in cats. His favorite way to play is to race around the yard with another dog chasing him. Other then those occasional sprints he doesn't really play much. He's a very mellow boy. Crate trained, neutered, heart worm negative, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Current or recent past vets name and number, and contract is required to adopt. We have many rescued dogs please check out our website. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-07-00506Lakota (female)

Siberian Husky    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Lakota is a beautiful, loyal and loving 13-year-old, 68-pound, female, blue-eyed Siberian Husky looking for a loving guardian. Lakota bonds very tightly and adoringly with her human. She lived with a man her entire life, but he passed away in July. Lakota walks beautifully on leash, in fact she loves long walks - even in the winter. She is housebroken, well-mannered and non-destructive in the home. She has seldom energetic moments. When she's not going for a walk, she enjoys her beautfy sleep, and snores loudly. She is wonderful with all my other dogs '| and, although I haven't tried, I've heard she's not so good with cats and rabbits. ... (Read More)She is a little stiff and arthritic in her hips so she doesn't like it when other dogs jump on her. She's great in the car once you help her get in and she's fine going up and down about six stairs to get in the house, but she can no longer go up a whole flight of stairs. She never gets on furniture beyond a dog bed. She's never lived with children and is a little hand-shy, but she gives lots of appreciative kisses if you let her. Lakota is a healthy senior, spayed, micro-chipped, fecal and heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. She's even had complete blood-work and urinalysis. She has been recently diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism, so she is on twice daily (inexpensive meds) for that. She also takes supplements for her arthritis. She is currently staying with me in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. To meet and possibly adopt Lakota please contact or 773-777-2891. Her adoption fee of $150 benefits rescued pets and includes her meds, supplements and favorite foods. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Illinois
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.

Huskies were bred from dogs indigenous to the Siberian Arctic. Teams of Huskies were used during Gunnar Kaasen's 1925 run to deliver diphtheria vaccine to Nome. The last Siberian Huskies were exported from Siberia in 1930, after which the Soviet government closed the country's borders to outside trade.
