Rescue Me ID: 15-02-05-00480Koda (male)
We recently adopted a second dog named Koda but sadly we are going to have to rehome him again. He gets a bit too rough playing with our other dog (he not vicious he just likes to use his paws to bat at him and our other dog is small so if you have a second dog for Koda to play with a dog more his size would be best). He is a 60 pound pit husky lab mix and is an absolute lover. He LOVES to snuggle and really enjoys a good head rub. But sadly he is not leash trained. Him being 60 pounds it is way too hard on myself to attempt to leash train him as he pulls me down the block and my husband works a ton so he doesn't have the time. As mentioned Koda is part husky so he loves to run and will need a big house with a big yard and a fence. We love him already and we want him to have a great home where he can run and play and get all of the exercise, training, and attention that he needs. He is crate trained and sleeps through the night, but if he is left alone in his crate whenever we leave he cries and cries. We've been working on breaking him of that and he has made leaps and bounds in the short time we have had him. He is potty trained as well. Koda likes kids but does get a bit rough playing with smaller children (he likes to jump on them but with some training he could be a great playmate). He likes car rides as well so once leash trained he would make a great companion to take out to the bike path or a park for a hike! He is 15 months, neutered, and microchipped. Rehoming fee of 100 dollars to insure he goes to a good home. He has a crate, a harness, a collar, a leash, some food and toys that will go with him to his forever home. We would like to meet any potential adopters and view their home before rehoming him to make sure the home is up to our standards. Thank you for taking the time to read this! We hope to hear from you soon! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-05-00036PIPER (female)
DOB 2/14/13 Piper was a stray in rural Missouri, a place where dogs are commonly left behind when the owners move or can no longer afford their care. Many of these pups don't make it, but Piper was lucky enough to be found by a compassionate soul that arranged for her to join our rescue. Our best guess is that she is a lab/husky/shepherd mix, but we are sure there are several other beeds that contribute to her beautiful 'fluffy' tail, stunning looks and amazing intelligence. Piper is very smart! She is potty trained, crate trained, walks great on a leash, knows all basic commands, and rides well in a car. She loves to play with other dogs, go on long walks and run around in the backyard. She can also be silly and makes her fosters laugh at how goofy and cute she is. If you are looking for a pup that is well rounded and lively, Piper would like to meet you! Piper does not have children in her foster home and she does have the energy of a puppy. She wants to play with everyone and doesn't know that her playfulness might scare child that has not had dogs...she just wants to play! There is ONE thing that Piper does not appreciate...that is cats! So she would do best in a home without them. Piper is a wonderful, sweet dog that is looking for a HOME to call her very OWN! Standard adoption fee is $295 and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email Kathy for an application at firstname.lastname@example.org. (Less)

Payton is a good and friendly dog. He has a high energy level and needs lots of exercise as most huskies do. He also needs lots of attention and direction. The owner should be a firm and consistent 'pack leader'. He can be food aggressive. He loves to give kisses and hugs. Payton has been to training and will sit before he comes in the house and before he eats. He also will sit and wait at each crosswalk. He is a great dog for the right family!

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-06-00157Baby Girl (female)
We have been fostering Baby Girl since last April. Her mom finally gave relinquished custody two weeks ago and we spayed her and made sure she got all her tests and shots. She has striking Husky pale blue eyes and conformation. Her mother was supposed to be purebred, but we don't know about the father. We love Baby Girl. She is a wonderful and loving companion, but we have an 8 year old Dalmatian who doesn't want any part of her and we have had to keep them separate. She gets along great with the neighbor's dogs and our little one. Other than occasionally chasing one of our cats for play (she stops immediately when I reprimand her), she has never shown aggression and they aren't afraid of her. She gets along great with most people, big and little, but she is a little skittish around some people at first. Again, I have never seen any aggression towards people, but when she doesn't immediately take to someone, I will introduce them more slowly to her. The is probably the smartest dog I have ever owned and would be a dream to train, we just don't have the time or energy. We have spoiled her, but she isn't to the point of being rotten. She is also incredibly agile and an amazing jumper. She often perches 'Snoopy-style' on top of our pool shed. One of the challenges of a very smart young dog is that she loves to figure things out, like a toddler. She used to get into all kinds of mischief. It probably took her a half a day to figure out she could open our new front door and she had everybody wondering why the door would be opened when we turned around. The good thing about being so smart is that she figures out pretty quickly that something isn't acceptable and stops doing it after she a few times (usually). If I had a perfect family in mind, they would love her and commit to keeping her forever. They would train her. They would have another dog for her to play with and she would have room to run. She loves being outdoors, but she likes being inside with her family, too. I said she is average energy, but she can be very playful and loves chew toys and wrestling with ropes and running, which one would expect with a young girl like her. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-11-00583Ty (male)
This handsome boy was in a very high kill animal shelter and was going to be put down due to space. His family who had him left him there to die because he wouldn't stay home. He can jump a 4 foot fence, he no longer does here. They said he was 2 years old, he is now 3 years old. He has been waiting a year now for his very own home. He is black with a gray muzzle, and built like a husky, moves and acts like a husky and can yodel, but has semi floppy ears, weighs about 55 pounds, he was very skinny when we first rescued him. He is sweet, bold, and fine with most dogs, even small dogs. He loves attention once he know you but until then is very indifferent and unsure. He has a more independent personality here where he only gets a bit of attention as he is let in and out to play in the yard from the kennel. He has little interest in cats. His favorite way to play is to race around the yard with another dog chasing him. Other then those occasional sprints he doesn't really play much. He's a very mellow boy. Crate trained, neutered, heart worm negative, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Current or recent past vets name and number, and contract is required to adopt. We have many rescued dogs please check out our website. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-15-00016Nanook (female)
Female Siberian husky Nanook needs a new home/possible rehabilitation. She is quite agressive due to limited human/other pet contact her whole life. She absolutely does not get along with cats but can get along with other medium/large size dogs. Small dogs not recomended.

Rescue Me ID: 13-05-08-00107Clover (female)
Clover is a black and white female husky. The vet says she may be part Malamute because she is a bit taller and bigger than a female husky (weighs 60 pounds). She is 6 years old. I need to find a good home for her. Since I adopted her in 2010, many things have changed in my schedules and living conditions and we can no longer give her the attention and exercise she needs. She loves to go on walks and runs and really needs a fenced in yard for free running. She is an inside dog. She is an excellent companion for adults and children and gets along with most dogs. She can be food dominant with other dogs. I think she would be best in a home without another dog or with a submissive dog. She is also micro-chipped. She also has been diagnosed with mild epilepsy but is controlled by phenobarbital. She hasn't had a seizure since being on the meds and she is normal on the medication. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Illinois
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
