Siberian Husky    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Blind

I rescued Sitka from the County Shelter. He is beautiful inside and out. He had been shaved and his coat is growing out beautifully. The Vet says he's in great shape although he is partially blind. He talks and cuddles. He loves walks and is good on a leash. He's great with my grand kids - quite playful for a guy his age. He is house broken; goes to the door to be let out. However, if no one is there, he will go wherever he wants. He does not like the crate and can be destructive if he is confined. I work full time and our only difficulties occur while I'm gone. When I'm there, he lies next to me - perfectly behaved - and sleeps most of the ... (Read More)day. I'm not in a position to quit working for years. I love him. You will love him too. (Less)

Animal ID: 17-05-17-00184Siku (See-coo) (male)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Siku is a special case, he's very loving and playful, he can sit, stay, shake, roll over, speak, and is house broke, and crate trained but not for longer than 5 hrs or he tries to escape and will cause injury to himself. Indoor dog, loves cool tile floors, nothing of 75 and love his own fan. With that said, I will add a few negative things which most dog owners can relate too. 1- He's a picky eater, if at all possible he'd rather eat a raw diet or pure human food, but that isnt or hasnt been supplied to him, ...ok a few things like cheese, lettuce, carrots, apples slices, a spoonfull of vanilla ice cream is ... (Read More)his favorite reward. His current diet is 1 1/2 cup of dry kibble 7am with meds,(holistic brand premium dog food) with a 1/2 cup of canned holistic brand dog food mixed together. We have to switch it up weekly or he gets bored with the same soft food. Holistic food is pricy, his current food is 'Wellness Original CORE, which is kind of expensive. The lowest grade of dog food he has ever eaten is Iams original, dry kibble and iams canned. He is fed 2x a day.#2 Medically he was diagnosed with Valley Fever at age 1yr, and has to take fluconazole 260 mlg. twice a day. He also has seizures, and we have been told by the vet, it is probably epilepsy brought on by his valley fever. He must take medication for both conditions for the rest of his life. He gets a 1/2 tab of phenobarbital tablet twice a day at the same time everyday and his fluconazole one capsule twice a day. Currently his his schedule for meds is at meal time, 7am and at 7pm. His trigger for his seizures tends to be only after he ingests a foreign object and starts to throw it up. Its the hardest thing to see your dog endure. Siku will eat things he shouldn't, especially if you're not diligent at keeping a watchful eye on him when he's outside off leash, which I wouldn't advise because it makes it even harder to stop him from eating something he finds on the ground. Play time is best done in a clean and cleat area that has concrete slabs, but im not saying he can't be in the grass or run around at a dog park becsuse he will gladly go with pleasure :) But you'd have to watch him closely because even grass, feathers, yard debris, pieces of cloth from a toy or his bedding, will 9 times out of 10, cause him to throw up and have a full blown seizure. He will shred things like Rope toys, or stuffed toys and eat the stuffing so they are not advisable. He loves to chew on stuff and I'd be happy to share with you the toys he's been unable to destroy or ingest. One thing we've found that seems to keep him busy and hasn't caused and him to get sick are antlers of all kinds. Larger the better. You can purchase them at chewy.com or at PetSmart or Petco. He has never caused any household damages. Hes only been destructive with toys or his bedding. I would not advise the use of foam bedding or cloth mats. He his great with cats, likes to play with them but like any play it can get to rough so we instilled a command to tame it down a bit by saying, 'no cat and clap twice' he will lighten up on the play. He is a fantastic dog. And we allow him time in a baby pool on hot days but the fact that he has seizures makes it all the more risky especially if he were to ingest some water and it were to make him sick. If anything my husband and I have filled a baby pool with ice cubes in the summertime which he loves to dig in and play in. The story behind Siku is, we got him because our daughter who bought him as a young puppy didn't take into account the full on responsibilities involved in caring for a Siberian Husky, which of course I stressed to her before hand Not Too get one or a dog just yet, but she decided to get him anyway. The reality of his care kicked in when he was diagnosed with valley fever and she could not financially care for him or physically tend to his special needs. My husband and i acquired him and pretty much raised him with lots of love and patients. The unfortunate part of this situation is, Siku must be watched constantly, he's like a two year old with curiosity outside of the norm and wants to put everything in his mouth. Even when you take him outside on leash to go potty on command, he has to be watched at all times, to avoid picking up and ingesting something from the ground that isnt good for him to avoid a seizure from happening. We have also used rubber muzzle that he can still drink water with it on, while he's outside with us off-leash and it seems to deter him from picking things up but it's not the most Pleasant thing to see your dog in and I don't like keeping him in it for more than 45 minutes to an hour if that. Unfortunately, due to some family matters and health conditions my husband and I are not able to continue the diligent care 4 him, which breaks my heart. (Less)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lilo is a very sweet, playful and healthy husky who needs the right home. Needs to be only dog in home. Loves adults and children. Though she's a little more than 2 years old, she still has puppy traits. She's very strong, athletic and needs/loves long walks and runs. She can be gentle, affectionate and relaxes easily. Enjoys chase and tug games with people. She needs extra care/training to prevent her escape artist tendency and defiant moments (must have regular outings and attention). She can and has jumped fences or broken out of fenced yards. She also needs to be socialized with other dogs (she will try to chase them, and acts ... (Read More)aggressive and distrustful with them). My daughter has a new baby who needs extra care and they can't manage Lilo. We all hope for happy home for her. (Less)

Emmy: Approximately 2.5 year old Husky and German Shepherd mix. Emmy was rescued from the shelter just before she was to be euthanized for being a bite risk due to extreme fear. Her temperament at that time did support that evaluation, and it took a substantial investment of time and patience to allow her to trust people again. As this is the case, an adopter for Emmy MUST be capable of having the patience to allow her to develop trust for her. This means a secure home and yard environment, no attempts to leash her, and allowing her to initiate any and all physical contact. Emmy can not go to a home with children under 12 years of age, ... (Read More)and an adult home would probably be best to avoid any incident precipitated by a child unfamiliar with Emmy's needs making an error in early handling of her. Emmy is very friendly and comfortable with other dogs of small or large size and of either gender. If you can commit to the investment of a few months' time to earn her trust, Emmy will repay you with a lifetime of loyal companionship. We have seen this with our own eyes as we gained Emmy's trust, and we know she is capable of this same bond with you. Emmy is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and health checked. PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Arizona
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.
