Meet Fred and Ginger (also known as Freddie and Gigi)... This lovable bonded pair survived the hot summer streets of Phoenix together. Their story is heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. Fred, a tan German Shepard estimated to be between 5-7 years old, fell into a canal and found himself struggling to keep his head above water due to heat exhaustion, dehydration and malnutrition, and possible years of neglect. When local rescuers got wind of Fred, they rushed to the scene. They then noticed another pup in the in the bushes, perched on the dirt rim by the canal, that at times went in and out of the water as if taking care ... (Read More)of her buddy. Ginger who is affectionately called Gigi is about two year olds and a tan husky mix. As rescuers waited for the local fire department to arrive to assist in taking Fred out of the canal, they helped Fred stay alive by putting a snare around his muzzle to keep him from sinking into the water as he kept nodding off due to his exhaustion. Rescuers had been cautioned by the irrigation man not to go into the contaminated, green canal water as it was full of bacteria and bugs. Upon arrival, paramedics were able to pull Fred out of the water safely. However, Ginger took off scared, but watched from a distance. She did not want to leave her buddy. Rescuers became frantic they would lose her if they kept trying to approach her. Therefore, when paramedics left, they decided to set a humane trap and tied Fred to the trap with a leash, baited the trap, and moved away. Instantly the emaciated girl came back to Fred's side. Her hunger seemed to take over and she started eating the rotisserie chicken that led into the trap. Thankfully within minutes, she was also secured. Rescuers quickly learned that Fred was microchipped, and were hopeful that owners would go to county, where the pups were taken, to pick him up and as well as offering a home to Gigi. Sadly they never went for him. Gigi was not microchipped, and no one claimed her. While at county Fred became very ill and was tagged for rescue in an effort to get him long-term medical treatment. However, the rescue was unable to commit to taking Ginger with him. In an effort to keep this sweet pair together, the current fosters pulled them from county with an offer from AARF US to assist with adoption. Since then, Fred has required different types of medical treatment and multiple visits to urgent pet care. He finally seems to be responding to a regime of antibiotics and has started to show his loving, mellow personality. He loves to sit on the living room chaise and just chill! Ginger, who is recovering from her spay, has also become less fearful of people and is showing her energetic, playful, and loving personality. She is observed frequently going up to Fred to give him affection and kisses as if telling him, 'I love you and I'm so happy we're together!' We are looking for a loving home that is committed to keeping these pups together. They have endured much hardship in their lives and deserve a happy life where they can continue to receive attention and love, while being allowed to nurture their bond with each other. Freddie and Gigi are friendly with other dogs, as the current fosters have six dogs. They are submissive in nature, but Fred has a difficult time accepting 'pushy' dogs. Both pups are potty trained and use a doggy door. Fred gets anxious in enclosed environments, and so his foster does not crate him or Ginger. Neither one has proven to be destructive at all. Fosters are helping Fred learn to feel secure and less anxious, and he is slowly getting there. Both pups are fixed and up to date with all vaccinations, and have had physical exams including a blood test, a urine analysis, and tests for tick fever, valley fever, and heart worm. Both are microchipped. Fred will be getting a dental done, once he recovers from his leg infection. If you interested in meeting Fred and Ginger, to adopt or foster-to-adopt, please contact Diana at (201) 926-3591 or Toni with AARF US at (602) 405-0155. Home visit will be required and these pups must be INSIDE dogs. PLEASE SEE ID # 1708-14-00305 FOR INFO ON FRED: ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES BOTH PUPS (Less)

Kiba is a 6-7 year old husky. She is on the smaller end of the breed standard at about 30-35 pounds. We are unsure of the reason but she is missing most of her tail. Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Emmy is an approximately 2.5 year old Husky and German Shepherd mix. She was rescued from the shelter just before she was to be euthanized for being a bite risk due to extreme fear. Her temperament at that time did support that evaluation, and it took a substantial investment of time and patience to allow her to trust people again. As this is the case, an adopter for Emmy MUST be capable of having the patience to allow her to develop trust for them. This means a secure home and yard environment, no attempts to leash her, and allowing her to initiate any and all physical contact. Emmy can not go to a home with children under 12 years of age, ... (Read More)and an adult home would probably be best to avoid any incident precipitated by a child unfamiliar with Emmy's needs making an error in early handling of her. Emmy is very friendly and comfortable with other dogs of small or large size and of either gender. If you can commit to the investment of a few months' time to earn her trust, Emmy will repay you with a lifetime of loyal companionship. We have seen this with our own eyes as we gained Emmy's trust, and we know she is capable of this same bond with you. Emmy would be an excellent companion for an active person or couple as she loves hiking and other outdoor activities. Emmy is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and health checked. PIease Read Before Adopting a Siberian Husky in Arizona
Siberian Husky Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Siberian Husky is a large Spitz-type dog with a history of being used as a sled dog. Despite its ancient genetics and wolf-like appearance, Huskies are extremely friendly, gentle family companions. Huskies do not make good guard dogs. They are wonderful with children. Huskies do not like to be left alone so it is a good idea to own two of them. Huskies are smart but stubborn; they need firm training but may still disregard commands. Huskies should be socialized with other pets when they are puppies. Huskies need acreage on which to roam and should be sheltered from hot temperatures.

lnteresting Siberian Husky Trivia Low-Cost Arizona Spay & Neuter Clinics
Huskies were bred from dogs indigenous to the Siberian Arctic. Huskies were imported to Alaska during the Nome Gold Rush. Huskies are named after tribes of Inuits called Huskies. Teams of Huskies were used during Gunnar Kaasen's 1925 run to deliver diphtheria vaccine to Nome. The last Siberian Huskies were exported from Siberia in 1930, after which the Soviet government closed the country's borders to outside trade.
